Custom HTML/Javascript added and more!
by Steve Testone on August 7th, 2009

We've been working really hard lately on making some huge improvements to SnapPages. The first big one we released was theme update, and now we've made another big update to the My Pages application. I'm very excited about this one because we have finally added the most requested feature everyone has been asking for. With a pro account, you can now add your own custom html code and scripts to any page on your site!

The new web block is called a "code box" and it does pretty much what it sounds like it would do. It gives you a little box that you can dump whatever code you want into and it will run securely on your pages. You can now easily embed just about any third party widget that you want, or even add some custom html tables. The input box even has syntax highlighting and allows for the "tab" character so it will work like it's own mini code editor.

And if all that wasn't enough I also made a ton of improvements to the interface, added some other new features, and fixed a lot of little bugs. Here's a quick list of most of the improvements that were made:

  • Custom code box added!
  • Imroved interface for adding web blocks
  • Added descriptions for web blocks so you know what they do
  • Images with effects or frames added will now display as images instead of flash files so that pages will load faster and be more compatible with mobile browsers
  • The blog posts block that displays your latest blog posts can now be filtered to only show updates from certain categories
  • The folders in the page list menu are now collapsible
  • Improved menus for web blocks
  • Headings can now be centered and aligned to the right
  • Improved image uploading
  • Fixed several smaller bugs that would lock up the editor

I hope you guys enjoy this one. As with any big update there might be a few issues that pop up here or there, so be sure to let us know about any you find as soon as possible. We've got even more big updates on the way as well so keep sending us your suggestions. Other then that, happy coding!

Just got back from a day out with my youngest. Saw news of this post on Twitter on my iPhone and I drove home at about 100mph! Can't wait to try this out... Thanks Steve.

Love the update!! One problem though... after I add custom html to a page when I go back to 'my pages' it kinda freezes and won't let me do anything but revert the page to before I had the html.

I'll check into this. Do you know if it happens when you try to add any code or just a certain one?

Well I've only added one... it was a chat box on my homepage.
I haven't tried it on any other pages because I can't edit them now.

Hi Steve,

Love that you can add code boxes - how do you put one on the blog page? To use the services of Onlywire I need to add their logo/link. Thanks, Kerri

Currently the code box only works on the web pages, but we will try to integrate it with the blogging tool in a future update.

Having a couple issues with the widget box. CSS appears to not work.

Also, sometimes a streaming facebook widget works and other times it doesn't. There seems to be no pattern to why the widget won't work.

Please advise.

Can you submit a help ticket about this issue so that we can look into this?
