Slideshow updates
by Steve Testone on September 22nd, 2009

In case you haven't noticed recently, we've been pretty committed to launching new features on a regular basis. Some of these new features will be major and some will be just things that people have been asking for. This update is in the latter category. Many of you have asked for the ability to be able to hide the controls in the slideshows and also to be able to have them run in a loop. Now you can do both. When you drag a slideshow onto a page or select to edit one in the page editor, you will see a new button titled "options". If you click on this you will now see the new options for the slideshow.

Also while I was at it, I improved the overall UI of the slideshow controls because I thought they could be a little cooler and I'm obsessive like that. In addition to the slideshow update I also updated the album links so that they load faster and overall work better. So thanks again for the great suggestions, keep them coming!
UPDATE: I've also just added some additional options to the default gallery page itself. Now if you click on your gallery page in the My Pages application, you'll see some extra options to use either a 3D Gallery or a Photo Grid if you don't want to use the default slide show. Also in these options you can turn the album labels back on so you don't have to rollover albums to see their titles.

Great update Steve. I don't see the new features yet, but I'm sure it is just a matter of time.

Album Links Comment 1: Would it be possible to rename "My Albums" to something custom. My Albums seems to relate to a personal website and not necessarily a small business. I'd love to be able to change the name to Camp Photos or Food Albums, etc.

Album Links Comment 2: When you click on an Album Link it take you to the Photos page and defaults to the Slideshow style of an album. I happen to prefer the look of the Grid or the 3D Gallery. Could it be possible to select which style of gallery we would like on the Photos page after clicking on the album links?

You might have to clear your browser's cache before you see the changes. The "My Albums" no longer displays. As for the other comment read the update above. Thanks.

Hi Steven-
I just noticed this change today. Is there anyway I can put it back to show the title of each album in my gallery with the fan of the 3 pictures spread out. The new way really doesn't work for my business b/c it doesn't show the titles of the different galleries I want people to see as soon as they come to my site. Please let me know as soon as possible. I just bought the domain name today and was going to start sharing it with potential clients, but now I want to wait until I know if this can be fixed. Thank you so much!

Thanks for catching this. I just thought about how this might be an issue especially for photographers so I've now added some options to allow for labels. Read the update above for more on this.

Hi!

I'm glad you added more options to the slideshow display, but I still feel it could be improved. As an artist, I need the images of my work to be accompanied by titles and descriptions, which don't interfere with the images themselves. Is there a way to have the titles and descriptions placed to the right of my images, rather than overlapping them? And have these titles and descriptions change as the viewer clicks on my thumbnail images?

Also, can you please allow more room for descriptions. At the moment, only one line of my image's descriptions are displayed and then get cut off if it exceeds that.

I hope that my requests all make sense. Thank you for always improving and for your time. I appreciate it.

I think you need to go into the Photos App and set them your albums to "public".

Is there a way to have a slideshow play of an album on the home page, but not have that album show up on the photos page?

Hello, seems like we need to choose one or the other between slideshow & billboard. I like to have the various transition options and effects from the slideshows, but I need to link my images to other web pages. So can we link our slideshows? Or have style options for the billboards?
Thank you! :)
