New AddThis, Retweet, and Facebook plug-ins
by Steve Testone on March 8th, 2010

In addition to all the new improvements are are already making, we are planning on rolling out several smaller updates with new features. Today we just updated the site with one of these new features. Everyone wants more integration with existing social networks so that's one of the things we are working on.

You'll notice on this blog that at the top next to the comment count we have a "tweet" button and a "share" button for facebook. These, in addition to the new AddThis button that you see at the bottom of this post, are new plug-ins for the blog. You can enable these on your blog in the settings under the new "Plug-ins" tab. It's as simple as that. Just enable the plugin and it will automatically show up on your blog.

We've also added a new "AddThis" block that you can add to any web page and it will add the same AddThis button that you see on this blog to any page on your site. You can even set what URL you want shared in case it's not the same as the page the button is on. You can find this block in the "widgets" section of your web blocks in the page editor.

Thanks for the social media updates! The down side to doing a great job though is that it gets guys like me thinking about what else I'd love to see. Any chance you have thought about a way to make a snap page website mobile browser friendly? I really like how my blog redirects to a mobile version when viewed by a smartphone. What are you thoughts?

I don't see a downside to having more suggestions so keep them coming!

This is all great, but how can we get these buttons to work on the BLOG app? See how in your blog right up here you have a button for retweet and facebook share and at the bottom to add this? Well This is all great for the site pages but it's most useful for the blog app because that is where most of the new content gets updated and so where you want these buttons to share the most. PLEASE do this!!! Please, pretty, please? !

You already can use these in the blog. There is an explanation of how to do this in the blog post, but basically just go into your blog settings and look in the "plug-ins" tab and you'll find the options to enable these for you blog.

I'm afraid it's still not working. Tried a few times, on different days and it still doesn't save the settings. Should I open a ticket or post on the bug forum? Can you look into it? Any help on how to handle this is greatly appreciated. I've been looking forward to these features, will love to use them asap.
