Flash free billboards...sort of...
by Steve Testone on July 1st, 2011

We've been gradually trying to make our sites more compatible with mobile devices that don't support flash. This is mainly because the iPhone and iPad doesn't support it. One of the last elements on the sites that don't show up if you don't have flash installed are the animated billboards. You've probably seen the blank space where it's supposed to be if you've opened your site on an iPhone or iPad.

With an update this week, you will at least see the background image from the billboard slides in this space if the user doesn't have flash. We understand it's not a complete solution but it is much better then the blank space that was there before. We'll be working on improving this more in the future as well.

thanks, i saw the change when I was showing a client one of my old sites I built and she was blown away by the billboardsand to my surprise it actually worked on my iPad! lol But the next step is to get the Slidshows and and photo galleries to work as well. There are some HTML5 plugins you can use that your html code embed plugin works with, but it would be nice if snappages support their own fix for it.

The regular slideshows should also work. I did an update to these a while back so an html version should show up when they don't have flash.

So does the background image rotate with each slide? I will check here in a bit, but that's the first thing I was wondering. Thanks again!

Yes, the images fade in and out with each slide.

I was just playing with the billboard wondering if I could add text (beside the option to add text) instead of pictures. I think that would be a great feature to add to the billboard. I would like to add the truncated reviews of my show to it. Also, I am creating a website for an artist and it would be nice to add reviews of him and his music to the billboard in addition to his pictures. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. Right now there isn't a way to add pure text in this area. You could create an image with this text on it in the mean time.

What about the calendar? That too does not show up!

Yes, this one is still on our todo list.
