The new Blog app is here!
by Steve Testone on March 2nd, 2012

The year of SnapPages 2.0 has officially begun. The first new app to launch is an updated version of our blogging app. It's been almost 3 years since the first blog app launched and we've learned a whole lot since then. We also had a wish list a mile long from our users of features they'd like to see included in this new app and we did our best to fit these in where we could.

New Features

  • New HTML5 interface
  • Additional text formating options
  • Improved tagging
  • Sub-categories
  • Scheduled publishing
  • Page breaks for shorter previews on main blog page
  • Improved WYSIWYG editor
  • Auto-moderate comments
  • More flexible side block area
  • Add code boxes to the side of your blog (great for ads)
  • New social sharing buttons
  • Archive view
  • And a whole lot more...
One thing to keep in mind with the new 2.0 apps is that they've been designed to be much more flexible then our current apps. This is because we plan on adding new features and updating these much more often then we have in the past. So if you don't see a new feature you were hoping for in this launch, that doesn't mean we might not be adding it sometime this year.

New but familiar...

Although the new Blog app has been rebuilt from the ground up, it should still be very familiar to those that have been using the original Blog app. However the entire interface has been streamlined to help you manage your blog with less hassle.

For instance your blog posts are now all color coded so you can easily see which ones are published and which ones scheduled to be published later.

Improved Editor

The new editor we've built allows us to do a lot of things that just weren't possible in the old flash version. For instance you will find a lot more text formating options.

The biggest advantage is perhaps that we can now display content in the editor almost identically to how it will look on your website. No need to preview anymore because what you see is what you get!
A huge thanks to everyone who has contributed suggestions and to all of our beta testers. This is a big update to SnapPages but the year is just gettings started and we have much biggers updates on the way!

Sounds really awesome. Is it gonna be possible to use your tablet in the future? I tried now but it didn't work. To much flash left maybe? This is a great step, I was just thinking moving to (sorry) Posterous because I had problems with snappages and my Mac and all the flash, but the news about they sold out to Twitter and this great news about the blog app maybe it's best to hang tight :). I really want to be able to use my tablet or smartphone to make blog post. Can't wait to try it out! :)

I was discussing tablets with Steve on the forums. It's very close. There's no flash in the Blog 2 interface at all, but the hinderance to tablet support is the drag and drop interface. Technically it's not a massive task, however that doesn't necessarily mean we'll see it imminently.

Glenn is correct. We will need to make some adjustments to this new app to make it work on devices like the iPad but it is something we are currently working on.

Thanks for your helpful and easy-to-use service. I'm wondering if you have any plans for an iOS app for blogging on the go?

My biggest concern with the SnapPages blog was never the editor so much as the SEO. Have SEO concerns been addressed in the new version or is it on the roadmap?
Steve Testone - March 15th, 2012 at 4:22 PM
Can you give me some more specific details about these concerns?

We are very new to SnapPages and are in the middle of moving our 400 member base over to our new home here. It is exciting to see the changes and we are so looking forward to more google integration like specifically for the calendar. Would also like to see something for maybe "DropBox" or "box" to host our files in. (((BiG BEAR HUGS)) Phoenix Movie Bears

p.s. think of us on your next betas

Glad to hear it! In the mean time you might want to try out our built in files app to host your files as it integrates seamlessly with all our other apps.

Right now, we're using Feedburner to deliver blog posts via email. Is there a way to do something similar using the emailer app in conjunction with the blog app? Specifically, I would like to have a subscribe widget that adds to the delivery list and sends each post or a week's worth of post snippets automatically. Currently, it seems like we would have to pound out a new email manually to accomplish this.

so, I wonder if this is possible, does anyone know how to do?
