Beta Update: Images and Publishing
by Steve Testone on October 1st, 2012

For those of you using the new beta version of the Pages 2.0 app, we've just added some new features you need to know about. If you aren't using the beta, you can find instructions on how to do that by clicking here.

New Image Features

zoom feature
We've added two highly requested features for the images on your website. You can now easily add ALT tags (helps with it...) and you can also enable a "zoom on click" feature. This basically allows a user to click on an image and instantly view a larger version of it. To see how this works, just click on the image to the left.

Publishing Pages

publishing pages
Previously, the only time you would need to publish a page was if it was a "draft". This meant you were still working on it and didn't want it to be viewed online at all. But what if you are working on an existing page that is live on your website and you don't want the changes you are working on to go live just yet?
This is exactly the issue we are trying to solve with this update. Now when you save a page, the changes won't go live on your site until you officially "publish" them by hitting the publish button. This allows you to save your work far more often and you don't have to worry about it going live on your site. You will see a special icon that shows you when you have unpublished changes on a page so you'll know if they are out of sync.

Thanks again to everyone for your feedback so far on the beta, with your help it's going to just keep getting better and better!

Good updates, although the lightbox style image viewer doesn't play nicely with iPhone/iPad (and possibly all touch devices). The image view with these lightbox viewers is always a bit clunky on iPhone (especially when scrolling or zooming) but more importantly, with your implementation it is impossible to close the image. The only way to get rid of the zoomed image was to refresh the page.

Thanks for the feedback Glenn. I will try to get it optimized for iOS before the beta is over.

While reading this I got really excited about the Publish feature and thought this company rocks the universe. Thanks for all the great and regular updates!

Not sure if we rock the entire universe, but we do our best. Thanks for the feedback!

This may have been asked already, but with the new billboards can you not put text onto them?
