New Layout Engine
by Steve Testone on November 13th, 2014

I'm really excited to unleash the new layout engine that I've been working on! It's a big change and it's going to allow you to do some really cool stuff, so watch the video below to see it in action and then read on to learn more about it.
As you can see from the video above, the new layout engine allows you to not only drag and drop blocks of content vertically, but also horizontally. With the old layout editor, you had to manually add new columns and rows, and it was a bit cumbersom and tricky to get it exactly how you wanted it.

With this new version, columns and rows are created and removed behind the scenes as needed. If a block is dragged next to another block, a column will get created and the blocks will automaically be positioned side-by-side. If one of the blocks is removed, the column will remove it self and the remaining content will stretch to fill the space.

One issue with doing it this way, is that there is now no need to have empty columns so they automatically get removed. The problem is that some people have existing page layouts that use empty columns in them to position content. In order to ensure that these layouts don't break, we automatically add a "Spacer" block so that those empty columns don't get deleted and the original layouts should be unaltered.

Overall I think you are going to notice immediately how much more powerful this new layout engine is, and it should speed your design process up. As I mentioned this new layout engine was created from scratch, and although we have tried to be extremely thorough with our testing, it's possible that there are still a few bugs in it. If you find something wrong, let us know and we'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

UPDATE: If you are having any issues with the editor after this update, please try to clear your browser's cache and refresh. This seems to fix over 90% of the problems people are having. If this still doesn't fix it, submit a help ticket and we'll be sure to get it resolved for you.

This has always been a frustrating thing for me since I'm a total novice with website building.
This new feature is so cool. I can't stop playing with it ... Makes me look like I'm a real website developer.. ;)

Just tried it out, and the issue I'm having is that the layout is not allowing me to use my cursor to adjust the width of any elements, therefore I can't edit or create new pages with varying column/section widths.
