How to add email notifications to your blog
by Ryan Courtney on April 1st, 2016

Over the years, we've had many users request the option to automatically send out emails to their blogs' followers whenever a new blog post was published. While this functionality is not directly supported through SnapPages, there is an easy way to set this up using Mail Chimp.

Setting up automated email notificiations for new blog posts

To start, you'll need to create an account with Mail Chimp. Unless you have a very large number of followers for your blog, you should be able to sign up for their free account option. Once you're set up with Mail Chimp, you will need to add your email subscribers to a list. If you already have an email list (or multiple lists) set up through our 'Emailer' app, you can export them from SnapPages (scroll over the list in the 'Emailer' app of your SnapPages' account and click 'Download') and then import them into your Mail Chimp account.

What if I don't have any email subscribers yet?

To begin compiling a list of subscribers for your blog, you will need to create an email list in Mail Chimp (don't worry, it's very easy to do). Once you've done this, you will need to add a Mail Chimp subscribe form to your SnapPages site. To do this, click the 'Lists' heading while in your Mail Chimp account, select 'Signup forms', and then click 'Embedded forms'.
From there, you will be taken to a screen where you can customize the sign up form you want to add to your SnapPages site. When you're ready, copy the code provided under the 'Copy/paste onto your site' section. Then, log into your SnapPages account, click 'Blog' and choose 'Options'. Scroll down to 'Side Blocks' and select 'Add a new block'. When prompted, choose 'Code Box', add a title for the form, and click 'Create'. Lastly, select the side block you just created, click 'edit' and paste the embed code you copied from Mail Chimp into the code box. Don't forget to click 'save' when you're done (both in the code box editor and the 'Side Blocks' screen after saving the changes to the code).
After you've done this, you should see a subscribe form on the right hand side of your blog. Anytime someone signs up using that form, their information will automatically be added to the email list you previously created in Mail Chimp.

Keep in mind that you can add the Mail Chimp subscribe forms to any page on your site (not just the blog) by pasting the embed code for the form into the 'Code Box' web block found in the SnapPages page editor.

Okay, but how do I send out email notifications for new posts?

Don't worry, the hard part is done - this next part is easy! To set it up to where your blog's followers will be emailed each time you publish a new post, click here for some step by step instructions on how to do so.

Goodness, this sounds much easier than what I was doing by copying and pasting each new blog into an email to my emailer subscribers. Can it be this easy??? Snappages--you are a dream!
